Chandigarh: Bharatiya Janata Party national president Nitin Nabin has summoned Punjab state unit chief Kewal Singh Dhillon and state organizational secretary Manthri Srinivasulu to New Delhi to address escalating dissent following the constitution of a new state executive. The state leaders were participating in pre-scheduled organizational meetings in Ludhiana when they were asked to rush to the capital for urgent deliberations. The meeting was attended by national general secretary BL Santosh and state observer Satish Poonia at Nabin’s residence, where the leadership reviewed internal friction and discussed strategies to strengthen the party unit ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections.
The high-level discussion focused on resolving a recent wave of resignations triggered by appointments to the new executive committee. National leadership instructed state office-bearers to reach out directly to disgruntled cadres, manage internal anxieties, and correct organizational processes. Senior party sources noted that internal dissatisfaction often accompanies structural changes, emphasizing that building a ground-level presence in Punjab—moving beyond the party’s historical 23-seat footprint—requires reconciling differences and accommodating key stakeholders across all regions.
In addition to resolving organizational friction, the leadership mapped out tactical expansion plans to establish a presence across all 24,000 polling booths in the state, up from the current 19,000. The meeting also outlined state-level public programs to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14. Party insiders confirmed that potential alliance speculation surrounding a recent meeting between Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not discussed, keeping the meeting’s focus strictly on internal organizational management.
