Fatehgarh Sahib: Three Kanwariyas were killed and another seriously injured after a speeding car allegedly hit them on the highway between Sirhind and Mandi Gobindgarh in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district.
The four victims were reportedly returning to Faridkot after collecting Gangajal from Gangotri as part of their religious journey for Shivratri when the accident occurred.
According to the information available, the impact proved fatal for three of them, who died at the spot. The fourth victim, identified as Mukesh Goyal, a resident of the area near Government Girls School in Kotkapura, sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Three victims identified
All three deceased were residents of Kotkapura. They have been identified as:
- Jagdish Mittal (40), resident of Doctor Harpal Street
- Mahendra Pal (43), resident of Harinau Road
- Deepak Kumar (42), resident of Surgapuri
The accident has left the families of the deceased in shock as the group was returning home after completing their pilgrimage.
Driver fled after accident
The car involved in the collision reportedly sped away from the scene after the incident. Police have initiated an investigation and are examining CCTV footage from the highway and surrounding areas to establish the identity and whereabouts of the driver.
Officials said efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and locate the person responsible for the crash. Police are also gathering evidence from the accident site as part of the investigation.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety, particularly on busy highway stretches where speeding vehicles pose a serious risk to pedestrians and pilgrims travelling on foot.
