Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has approached Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, seeking 10 days’ parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara on humanitarian grounds so that he can meet and care for his ailing mother.

In a letter addressed to the Governor on Saturday, Mann highlighted the deteriorating health of Hawara’s mother, citing her advanced age and age-related medical concerns.

The Chief Minister said the condition of Hawara’s mother had become a matter of concern and that her son’s presence was being sought at a time when she was facing health difficulties.

Mann also referred to a petition filed by Hawara before the Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh. Hawara has filed CRWP No. 3868/2026, seeking his release on parole.

According to the Chief Minister, the High Court has directed that Hawara’s request for parole be considered by the competent authorities.

Mann’s appeal to the Governor comes against this backdrop, with the state government seeking consideration of the parole request on compassionate grounds.

The proposed 10-day parole would allow Hawara to be with his mother during her illness, subject to the applicable legal and administrative procedures.
