New Delhi: A serving Indian Air Force officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged case of sharing sensitive military-related information after reportedly falling victim to a honey-trap operation involving a Pakistani intelligence operative, police said on Saturday.

The case came to light following a complaint submitted by the Indian Air Force, after which investigators initiated a probe into the officer’s alleged interactions and the information he is accused of sharing.

Arrest made in May

According to police, the officer was taken into custody on May 30 after the IAF approached authorities with allegations that he had been honey-trapped through social media by a Pakistani intelligence operative.

A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Official Secrets Act, which deals with the unauthorised handling or disclosure of information considered sensitive to national security.

Chargesheet filed after investigation

Police said the investigation into the case has been completed and a chargesheet was submitted before the competent court on July 30.

The probe focused on the circumstances surrounding the officer’s alleged contact with the Pakistani operative and the military information that he is suspected of having disclosed.

Officials have not publicly released details of the information allegedly shared, the identity of the operative involved or the specific social-media platform used to establish contact.

The allegations are now subject to judicial proceedings, and further developments in the case are expected as the matter progresses before the court.
