New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has initiated action against a security guard following a complaint alleging inappropriate behaviour towards a woman patient at the hospital.

In a press release issued on August 8, AIIMS said the security guard, identified as Dhananjay Singh, has been removed from service following the complaint.

Security agency penalised

According to the institute, disciplinary action has also been taken against the security agency associated with the guard. AIIMS further said that a police complaint has been filed in connection with the matter, paving the way for further legal action.

The institute did not provide additional details about the alleged incident or the nature of the complaint.

AIIMS reiterates zero-tolerance policy

The development comes as AIIMS reiterated its policy of taking a strict stance against sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct on its premises.

The institute said it remains committed to maintaining a safe and dignified environment for patients and their attendants.

The action against the guard follows the complaint by the woman patient and reflects the hospital administration’s stated policy of dealing firmly with allegations of misconduct involving its staff and personnel working through contracted agencies.

Further action in the matter will depend on the police investigation and other proceedings arising from the complaint.
