Shimla: Torrential rainfall has disrupted road connectivity and essential services across Himachal Pradesh, with 185 roads currently blocked in different parts of the state, according to data from the State Emergency Operation Centre.
The prolonged spell of rain has also affected power and water infrastructure. As many as 104 transformers have been disrupted, while 77 water-supply schemes are currently affected across several districts.
Mandi, Kullu among worst-hit
Mandi has emerged as the worst-affected district in terms of road blockages, with 92 roads closed due to the adverse weather. Kullu follows with 48 blocked roads.
Shimla and Chamba have reported 14 road closures each, while Sirmaur has nine. Kangra has five blocked roads and Una three.
The widespread disruption has affected movement in several areas, with authorities working to restore connectivity as weather conditions permit.
Power supply affected in several districts
Rain-related disruptions have also hit electricity infrastructure.
Kullu has reported 53 affected transformers, the highest among the districts. Mandi has recorded 34 disrupted transformers, followed by Kinnaur with 12. Shimla has four affected transformers, while Chamba has reported one.
Water supply has also taken a major hit. Of the 77 affected schemes, 55 are located in Sirmaur, making it the worst-affected district in this category. Hamirpur has nine disrupted schemes, while Chamba and Shimla have seven and six respectively.
Weather department warns of more rain
The weather situation is unlikely to improve immediately. The Meteorological Centre has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh, with a yellow warning issued across all 12 districts.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places during the day, raising concerns over further disruption in areas already affected by blocked roads and damaged infrastructure.
Temperatures likely to remain near normal
Despite the widespread rain, the Meteorological Centre does not expect any major variation in temperatures.
Both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to remain close to their normal levels, even as cloudy and wet conditions continue across much of the state.
Authorities are continuing to monitor vulnerable locations, while restoration of roads, electricity infrastructure and water-supply systems remains dependent on the prevailing weather conditions.
