New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell, in coordination with central agencies, has arrested five suspected terrorists in a series of joint raids across five states, officials said on Thursday.

The arrests include two men, Aftab and Sufiyan from Mumbai, who were apprehended in Delhi. Raids at their Mumbai hideouts led to the recovery of weapons and material used for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs). In Ranchi, Ashar Danish was arrested, and chemical explosives were seized from his premises. Another suspect was picked up from Madhya Pradesh, while one more was caught in Hyderabad.

Investigators said the accused were part of an ISIS-inspired network and were plotting a major terror strike. Several members of the group are believed to have expertise in preparing chemical bombs, raising serious security concerns.

The operation began with the arrest of three suspects on Wednesday, including two from Delhi. Based on material recovered, two more were detained in a late-night follow-up, taking the total number of arrests to five.

Raids are still underway in Delhi, Mumbai, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad to track more operatives and recover explosives.

The Delhi Police Special Cell is expected to brief the media later today to share further details about the ongoing operation.
