Punjab Government Committed to Promoting Horticulture and Enhancing Farmers’ Income
Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is working consistently to promote horticulture and enhance the income of farmers across the state. In line with this commitment, Horticulture Minister Mr. Mohinder Bhagat today chaired an important review meeting with senior officials in Chandigarh to assess the progress of schemes related to beekeeping, sericulture and mushroom cultivation. Horticulture Secretary Mr. Arshdeep Singh Thind and Additional Secretary, Horticulture, Mr. Latif Ahmed were present on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Mohinder Bhagat reviewed the progress of various schemes pertaining to beekeeping, sericulture and mushroom cultivation. He said that promoting crop diversification is the need of the hour to ensure sustainable growth in farmers’ income. He emphasized that allied activities such as beekeeping, sericulture and mushroom cultivation not only provide farmers with additional sources of income but also play a significant role in making the horticulture sector more profitable.
The Cabinet Minister directed officials to expedite the recruitment process in the department, stating that the availability of adequate manpower would further improve the department’s efficiency. He also reviewed various important administrative matters related to the department and instructed officials to ensure that all farmer-centric initiatives are completed within the stipulated timeframe.
