TWO HELD WITH 10KG HEROIN IN AMRITSAR

CHANDIGARH/AMRITSAR: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted a trans-border narcotics supply network with the arrest of two individuals and recovered 10 kg heroin from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

Those arrested have been identified as Jasbir Singh alias Monu and Amritpal Singh alias Motta, both residents of Rangarh in Amritsar. Apart from recovering heroin, police teams have also impounded their motorcycle, which was being used for smuggling activities.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to identify all associates involved, and dismantle the entire supply chain.

Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that police teams had received a reliable input that two operatives of trans-border narcotics supply network have retrieved a big consignment of heroin and are supposed to deliver it in the area of Gharinda.

Acting swiftly on the inputs, police teams laid a naka in the area and apprehended Jasbir alias Monu and Amritpal alias Mottu, when they were on the way on their motorcycle, he said, while adding that during search, 10.03 kg heroin was recovered from their possession.

The SSP said that more arrests and recoveries are likely in coming days as the investigation progresses. In this regard, a case FIR no. 339 dated 4/8/2026 under section 21 of the NDPS act has been registered at Police Station Gharinda in Amritsar Rural
