LPU Athletes Earned 8 Commonwealth Games Medals, Including 4 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze

Jalandhar (Ens): Writing yet another glorious chapter in India’s sporting journey, athletes from Lovely Professional University (LPU) delivered an exceptional performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning eight medals for the nation, including four gold, two silver and two bronze. Competing across boxing, weightlifting, athletics and judo, 11 LPU athletes represented India on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages, reaffirming the university’s stature as a powerhouse of Indian sport and a consistent contributor to the country’s international sporting success.

Leading the medal winning campaign was Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (MA Psychology, ODL), who clinched Gold in Weightlifting, while Arundhati Choudhary (B.Sc. Health & Physical Education), Jasmine (B.P.Ed.) and Preeti (B.Sc. Health & Physical Education) each secured Gold in Boxing, underlining India’s dominance in the discipline. Adding to the celebrations, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain (MBA, ODL) earned Silver in Boxing, while Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra (BA, ODL) captured Silver in Athletics, further enriching his illustrious international record. Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi (BA, ODL) claimed Bronze in Weightlifting, and Unnati Sharma (B.P.Ed.) secured Bronze in Judo, taking LPU’s overall tally to eight medals.

Completing the university’s representation at the Games were Pooja (Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports) in athletics, Sanjana (BPES) in weightlifting and Martina Devi (BA) in weightlifting, each proudly representing India at the prestigious multisport event.
