New Delhi: The Ministry of Ayush and IndiaAI, an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), have entered into a partnership aimed at promoting the use of artificial intelligence in traditional medicine, research and digital healthcare solutions.

Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), both organisations will work towards developing AI-based innovations in the Ayush sector, with a focus on strengthening research capabilities, improving digital health systems and enhancing skill development, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

As part of the collaboration, the Ministry of Ayush will integrate with the AIKosh platform to share approved health research resources. These resources may include datasets, metadata, artificial intelligence models, technical tools and use cases that can support the development of AI solutions in traditional medicine.

Officials said the partnership is expected to encourage wider cooperation between researchers, technology experts and healthcare practitioners while ensuring responsible use of artificial intelligence in the Ayush ecosystem.

Focus on Research and Digital Transformation

Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary and Chief Vigilance Officer at the Ministry of Ayush, said the adoption of AI in traditional healthcare could create new opportunities in evidence-based research, information management and innovation.

She added that the partnership would help apply advanced technology in areas such as medicinal plant research, drug administration systems and professional training, making the Ayush sector more digitally equipped.

Sudeep Srivastava, Joint Secretary at MeitY, highlighted the importance of combining India’s traditional healthcare knowledge with emerging technologies. He said the collaboration would enhance AIKosh by adding datasets related to traditional medicine and provide researchers and practitioners with technology-driven tools.

Ayush Grid to Support AI Integration

Naman Goyal, Officer on Special Duty at Ayush Grid, said the organisation is working on AI-based platforms under its emerging technologies programme to accelerate the digital evolution of the Ayush sector.

The collaboration will focus on expanding AI applications across areas such as healthcare research, medicinal plant studies, drug management and capacity building.

The agreement will also enable access to GPU-based and high-performance computing facilities available through the IndiaAI initiative at subsidised rates, subject to specified service agreements. Officials said such infrastructure support will help researchers develop and scale advanced AI-based healthcare applications.

The partnership is expected to bring together India’s traditional medical knowledge systems and modern computing capabilities, creating a technology-driven framework for future developments in the Ayush sector.
