Shimla: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast another spell of intense monsoon activity across Himachal Pradesh, issuing yellow and orange alerts for several districts amid the possibility of heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods.

According to the weather office in Shimla, rainfall is expected to remain widespread across the state on July 26, with isolated locations likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to exercise caution as adverse weather conditions could disrupt normal life in many hilly regions.

The alert covers districts including Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una and Chamba, where intense rainfall may trigger landslides, rockfalls, waterlogging and sudden flooding in streams and seasonal rivulets.

Officials warned that continuous rainfall could lead to road blockages in mountainous areas, increasing the risk for commuters. Travelers have been advised to postpone non-essential journeys, particularly on routes vulnerable to landslides and falling debris.

The Meteorological Department has also cautioned people to stay away from rivers, streams and other flood-prone locations, as water levels may rise rapidly during periods of heavy rainfall. Motorists have been urged to drive carefully on hilly roads and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities.

Weather experts indicated that the southwest monsoon is expected to remain active over Himachal Pradesh for the next several days, suggesting that intermittent rainfall will continue across many parts of the state.

In view of the forecast, the state administration has directed district officials and disaster management teams to remain on alert and ensure preparedness for any weather-related emergencies. Authorities have also appealed to the public to rely only on official weather updates and contact emergency helplines if assistance is required.

The IMD said it will continue monitoring the evolving weather system and issue fresh advisories as conditions change, while urging citizens to remain vigilant until the spell of active monsoon begins to weaken.
