New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has ordered the temporary closure of 16 key metro stations across New Delhi starting at 7:30 AM on Thursday due to security concerns. The preventive step comes following law enforcement advisories amidst expanding demonstrations organized by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar over competitive examination irregularities.
The list of affected transit stops includes major central nodes such as Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. While entry and exit gates at these locations remain completely closed to the public until further official updates, transit authorities clarified that interchange facilities will remain operational at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat to minimize commuter disruption.
Law enforcement authorities have significantly reinforced security arrangements across central Delhi to prevent potential public order disturbances, prompting officials to advise daily commuters, students, and officegoers to plan alternative travel routes before heading out. The heightened security protocols follow recent violent clashes in the capital and remain part of preventive measures implemented around sensitive administrative complexes during the ongoing demonstration.
