Amritsar: Punjab Police have arrested two young men for allegedly attacking a bus carrying pilgrims near the Attari-Wagah border under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme. While no casualties or major physical injuries were reported among the passengers, a devotee’s mobile phone was damaged during the confrontation. Authorities registered a case against the two suspects and initiated further legal proceedings.
According to the official complaint lodged by the bus operators with the Amritsar Rural Police, the vehicle carrying roughly 45 devotees departed from Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar at around 4:30 AM on July 21. As the bus approached the Wagah border area at approximately 5:41 AM, a car began driving recklessly in front of the vehicle, attempting to block its path. When the bus driver asked the occupants of the car to cease dangerous maneuvers, the two youths parked their vehicle across the road, exited with a baseball bat and a traditional sharp-edged weapon, and began verbally abusing the passengers.
The complainant alleged that one of the assailants targeted a passenger, identified as Manjeet Singh, with intent to assault. The blow struck Singh’s mobile phone, shattering the device. The passenger composition inside the bus consisted of approximately 80 percent women and 20 percent elderly individuals, along with a differently-abled devotee who was allegedly pushed during the chaotic encounter.
Following the complaint, the police tracked down and arrested both individuals involved in the road rage and assault incident. A formal case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 281, 125A, 126(2), 351, and 109, and further investigation remains underway.
