New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) passed a resolution strongly condemning the alleged brutal lathi charge on students and lawyers during recent demonstrations in the national capital, demanding an immediate, impartial, and time-bound inquiry into the incident. Signed by SCBA Honorary Secretary Pragya Baghel, the resolution categorized the police action as excessive and unacceptable in a democratic setup, noting that several students and legal professionals sustained injuries. The legal body urged authorities to identify those responsible for using disproportionate force, ensure comprehensive medical assistance for all injured individuals, and implement preventative measures to avert future occurrences.
The SCBA resolution follows the Delhi Police’s recent action to disperse hundreds of demonstrators attempting to march toward Parliament House to protest against public examination irregularities. The incident has triggered widespread political and legal fallout across the national capital, prompting opposition leaders to observe protests at Lok Kalyan Marg while demanding the resignations of senior government officials. Simultaneously, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) also issued a statement raising serious concerns over the heavy-handed law enforcement response, emphasizing that peaceful dissent remains a fundamental constitutional right that must be safeguarded.
