Amritsar – In a major crackdown against cross-border narco-terror networks, Amritsar Commissionerate Police arrested notorious drug trafficker Soni Singh alias Soni and four of his associates, recovering 8.1 kilograms of heroin. The operation was carried out under the state’s anti-drug drive launched on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Monday.

The arrested accused have been identified as Gursewak Singh, Vishaldeep Singh alias Gola, Gurpreet Singh, and Arshdeep Singh, all residents of Ajnala in Amritsar.

According to DGP Yadav, the cartel was being supplied heroin from across the border through drones. Preliminary investigations suggest that hotels were being used as storage points for contraband before being distributed further into the network. He added that a probe is underway to trace handlers, supply routes, and financial channels linked to the syndicate.

Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the police first apprehended Soni on the city’s outskirts with 150 grams of heroin and drug money. Soni, who was released from jail in June and already has six NDPS cases against him, confessed to having distributed nearly 30 kilograms of heroin smuggled in via drones.

On Soni’s disclosure, police arrested his associate Gursewak Singh, recovering 8.037 kilograms of heroin from him. The remaining members of the module were also taken into custody during the follow-up operation.

Police said further arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days. A case under sections 21-B, 27-A, 21-C, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Chheharta police station (FIR No. 177 dated September 6, 2025).
