Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab: Actor-turned-philanthropist Sonu Sood, accompanied by his sister Malvika Sood, reached the flood-affected regions of Sultanpur Lodhi on Saturday, meeting victims face-to-face and promising full support in their rehabilitation. Traversing through water-logged areas by boat, Sood’s presence brought a wave of relief and hope to those grappling with the aftermath of severe flooding.
The actor personally interacted with displaced families, listened to their hardships, and assured them that his team would remain on standby for any assistance needed — be it medical, financial, or logistical.
“I haven’t come here as a celebrity but as a brother and a son. These are my people, and I’ll stand with them until they recover,” Sonu Sood said while speaking to the media and residents.
Flood Crisis Grips Region
Large swathes of Sultanpur Lodhi remain submerged, with roads inaccessible and homes damaged. Relief operations are ongoing, but the recovery process is slow. In such a grim backdrop, the Sood siblings’ visit provided a much-needed morale boost for residents.
The actor has gained national recognition for his humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and has since remained active in various social causes across India, including disaster relief.
Tense Moment During Visit
However, the visit wasn’t without its complications. A brief altercation broke out on the boat between one of Sonu Sood’s associates and a journalist from a private news channel. What began as a verbal disagreement escalated into a physical scuffle, during which the journalist’s turban was dislodged, causing visible tension among those present.
Recognizing the sensitivity of the situation, Sonu Sood immediately intervened, calming both parties and offering a public apology.
“This is extremely unfortunate. Our mission here is solely to serve, not to hurt anyone. I deeply regret what happened and extend my sincere apologies,” he stated, urging everyone to focus on the pressing needs of flood victims rather than distractions.
The issue was quickly resolved, and no formal complaint has been reported as of now. Both the journalist and Sood’s team have since moved on from the incident.
Commitment to Ongoing Relief Efforts
Following the visit, Sonu Sood confirmed that his foundation will continue working on-ground, coordinating with local authorities and NGOs to provide immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation solutions.
