New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district after torrential overnight rain triggered flash floods and caused widespread disruption in the region. He held separate discussions with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to assess the evolving situation and the ongoing relief efforts.
During the conversations, the Home Minister was briefed on the damage caused by the heavy rainfall, the condition of affected areas, and the measures being undertaken by the local administration to assist stranded residents and restore normalcy.
Shah assured both the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister that the Central Government would extend every possible assistance to support rescue operations, relief measures and rehabilitation efforts. He emphasised that safeguarding the lives of residents and ensuring timely assistance to those affected remained the government’s highest priority.
The Home Minister also directed officials to maintain close coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir administration and to ensure that all necessary resources are made available without delay. He stressed the importance of swift response, particularly in areas where heavy rainfall has damaged infrastructure or disrupted connectivity.
Flash floods triggered by continuous rainfall have impacted several parts of Rajouri district, prompting emergency teams to remain on high alert. Authorities have been monitoring vulnerable locations, while rescue and relief operations continue in affected areas.
The administration has appealed to residents to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from rivers and streams, and follow official advisories as the weather department has forecast further rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
Officials said the situation is being monitored round the clock, with both the Union and Jammu and Kashmir governments working together to minimise the impact of the floods and ensure the safety of affected communities.
