New Delhi: Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha has come out in strong support of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has entered the 19th day of his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. In an emotional video message shared on her social media platform, the Dahaad star broke her silence on the ongoing agitation, questioning why the administration has chosen to ignore the activist instead of initiating a dialogue regarding the systemic issues affecting the nation’s youth.
Wangchuk launched his fast on June 28 after joining a prolonged protest organized by the youth-led Cockroach Janata Party. The demonstrators have been demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over widespread irregularities and alleged paper leaks in the national NEET-UG examination framework. Acknowledging the heavy toll the fast has taken on his health, Sonakshi noted that the renowned environmentalist has already lost over nine kilograms. The latest medical bulletin released by doctors monitoring his vitals indicates a blood sugar level of 80 mg/dL and blood pressure fluctuating around 105/61 mmHg, though he remains mentally alert.
Expressing deep solidarity, the actor commended the agitating youth for their resilience and slammed the collective silence surrounding the issue. Defending her stance as a concerned citizen rather than an anti-national voice, she urged the authorities to intervene immediately before the situation turns critical, emphasizing that the activist is sacrificing his health entirely for the academic future of India’s children. Rehearsing Wangchuk’s own appeal to the public, Sonakshi stated that she would not pressure him to end the strike, but would instead demand accountability from the government, asking how long the administration plans to look away.
