Jagraon: Panic gripped Pabbian village in Jagraon after an 80-year-old former village head was brutally mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs. The victim, identified as former Sarpanch Jagdish Singh, was living alone in a farmhouse constructed amidst the agricultural fields. The horrific incident occurred past midnight when the elderly man stepped out of his house to use the washroom. Due to his advanced age, Singh could not defend himself against the aggressive pack, which inflicted fatal injuries and tore flesh from his limbs before leaving him dead at the spot. The tragedy was discovered the following morning, sparking widespread grief and anger among local residents.

This fatal assault marks the second such tragedy in the same village within a fortnight, as a migrant labourer was also attacked and killed by stray dogs just 15 days ago. The recurring fatalities have spread terror across the area, forcing residents to confine themselves indoors after sunset. Locals and members of the Dasmesh Kisan Mazdur Union alleged that packs of stray dogs have been regularly targeting residents and livestock for months. They severely criticized the local administration for its failure to implement animal birth control or relocation measures despite previous warnings, demanding an immediate drive to capture the aggressive animals.
