Kullu (Himachal Pradesh): Public outrage escalated in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu on Wednesday after the death of a woman at Regional Hospital, with hundreds of residents taking to the streets to demand a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.
The protest began at Rath Ground in Dhalpur, where demonstrators assembled before marching to the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP). Protesters staged a sit-in outside the main gate, raised slogans against the administration, and later proceeded to the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, where the agitation continued.
The demonstration was led by social activist Baldev Thakur, popularly known as Bunty Saraji. Despite persistent rainfall, people from various parts of the district joined the protest, reflecting growing public anger over the case.
Protesters demanded an impartial investigation into the woman’s death, strict action against those found guilty, and complete transparency throughout the inquiry. They also sought a high-level probe and legal proceedings against anyone found responsible.
Warning of an intensified movement, the demonstrators said they would continue their agitation until those responsible are brought to justice.
As the protests gathered momentum, authorities deployed additional security outside the SP and DC offices. Police and civil administration officials remained on high alert to maintain law and order while monitoring the situation.
The district administration appealed to protesters to remain peaceful while voicing their demands.
The protest, which began over the woman’s death at the hospital, has now evolved into a major public movement in Kullu, placing increasing pressure on the administration to ensure a credible and transparent investigation.
