Brooklyn: A festive Independence Day celebration turned into a scene of panic late on the Fourth of July after a shooting in the Coney Island neighbourhood of Brooklyn left at least eight people injured, including four children. The New York Police Department responded to urgent reports of gunfire at approximately 10:37 p.m. on the 2900 block of West 31st Street. Arriving officers discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds amidst the large crowds that had gathered along the historic waterfront to celebrate the holiday weekend.

Emergency medical services quickly transported the victims to local area hospitals for immediate medical attention. Among those wounded in the gunfire are two men aged 33 and 37, two women aged 21 and 25, and four young boys aged 6, 7, 12, and 14. According to authorities, seven of the injured victims are currently in stable condition, while the 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition. Authorities have chosen not to publicly release the identities of any of the victims at this phase of the investigation.

While investigators managed to recover a firearm from the scene of the shooting, no suspects have been detained and no arrests have been made. The exact motive behind the violent incident remains under active investigation by local detectives. Law enforcement officials are heavily relying on community assistance and are actively urging anyone with information, surveillance footage, or witness accounts from the night of the incident to come forward immediately to help identify those responsible.
