Delhi: Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail in connection with a separate case, has approached a special court in Mumbai seeking permission to formally surrender in the 2024 firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.
In his application before the special MCOCA court, Anmol stated that he wishes to participate in the judicial proceedings voluntarily and requested the court to facilitate his surrender so that the trial can continue in accordance with the law.
The plea notes that since he is already in judicial custody in another case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), he cannot appear before the Mumbai court unless specific directions are issued. He has therefore urged the court to permit either his physical production or virtual appearance for remand and other legal formalities.
According to the application, his formal surrender would ensure smooth progress of the trial and eliminate procedural delays. The defence has argued that such a step would not prejudice the prosecution and would instead help in expediting the proceedings.
The case relates to the firing outside Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai’s Bandra area on April 14, 2024. Two motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire outside the actor’s residence before fleeing the scene, triggering a high-profile investigation.
Mumbai Police later arrested multiple accused in connection with the case. Several of them remain in judicial custody, while one accused allegedly died by suicide during police custody. Authorities have also named jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as one of the wanted accused in the conspiracy.
Court proceedings in the case are already underway, with witness examination having begun. The plea filed by Anmol Bishnoi points out that evidence is being recorded despite his absence and states that his surrender would enable him to participate in the trial through the legal process.
Anmol Bishnoi was deported to India from the United States in late 2025 and was subsequently taken into custody by the NIA in another criminal matter. He has been linked by investigating agencies to multiple cases across different states.
The Mumbai court is expected to consider his application and decide the procedure for his production before the court, after which further action in the Salman Khan residence firing case will follow in accordance with judicial orders.
