Chandigarh – In response to the severe floods that have disrupted life across Punjab, the state’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department has announced emergency allocations of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas to ensure essential supplies are maintained.

According to Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, the department has earmarked 33,000 liters of petrol and 46,500 liters of diesel per petrol pump across the state, along with 1,320 LPG cylinders per gas agency. These allocations aim to stabilize supply chains and prevent shortages in flood-affected areas.

Amritsar district has been allotted 4,000 liters each of petrol and diesel per pump, along with 50 LPG cylinders per agency. Other districts received tailored allocations based on their requirements. Barnala has been given 1,000 liters of petrol, 1,500 liters of diesel, and 50 cylinders, while Bathinda has received 1,500 liters of petrol, 3,000 liters of diesel, and 25 cylinders.

Similarly, Ferozepur and Fazilka have each been allotted 1,000 liters of petrol, 2,000 liters of diesel, and 50 cylinders. Districts like Gurdaspur, Patiala, Rupnagar, and SAS Nagar have been provided larger stocks due to higher demand, with allocations reaching up to 3,000 liters of diesel and 100 cylinders in some regions. Tarn Taran, one of the worst-hit areas, has been sanctioned 3,000 liters of petrol, 4,000 liters of diesel, and 50 cylinders.

The minister stressed that these allocations are being monitored closely to ensure equitable distribution and prevent hoarding. “Our priority is to make sure that no family suffers from lack of essential supplies during this crisis,” Kataruchak said.

Floods have inundated large swathes of Punjab, cutting off villages, damaging crops, and disrupting transport. The state government has been under pressure to guarantee food, fuel, and energy access for affected communities. This emergency fuel and gas distribution is part of a wider relief plan to stabilize daily life while longer-term rehabilitation efforts take shape.
