Chandigarh: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) on Friday said that while the Bhakra dam’s water level has eased below the danger mark, the Pong dam continues to remain in a critical state.

BBMB Chairman Manoj Tripathi stated that the Bhakra dam this season reached a peak water level of 16.78 billion cusecs, matching the high levels recorded in 1988 and again in 2023. He added that inflow into Bhakra has slowed in recent days, reducing pressure on the structure.

As of Friday, Bhakra’s water level stood at 1,678.6 feet, about 1.4 feet below the prescribed danger mark. In contrast, Pong dam recorded a level of 1,394.7 feet, which remains above the danger threshold.

Tripathi expressed cautious optimism, noting that weather forecasts predict lighter rainfall over the next three to four days, a factor that could help stabilize the situation at both reservoirs.
