New Delhi: Activist Sonam Wangchuk continued his indefinite hunger strike for the third consecutive day at the CJP-led protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, with doctors dismissing social media claims that he had secretly consumed food and expressing concern over his low blood sugar levels.
After examining Wangchuk on Tuesday morning, Dr Satish Lamba said the activist’s vital signs remained stable overall. His temperature was normal, blood pressure was recorded at 117/60 mmHg, oxygen saturation at 96 per cent, pulse rate at 92 beats per minute, while his blood sugar level measured 66 mg/dL, which the doctor described as a matter of concern.
Responding to allegations circulating on social media that Wangchuk had consumed chicken soup during the night, Dr Lamba said the medical findings did not support such claims.
“If he had consumed food, especially chicken soup, his fasting blood sugar would not have dropped to 66. Even if someone considers it a random reading because he has been drinking water, the level remains low. We can repeat the test after four hours, and if it remains around the same level, it will completely disprove these allegations,” he said.
Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak issue.
Doctors have been conducting daily health examinations since the fast began and will continue monitoring his condition as the protest continues.
