Mumbai on High Alert After Threat of 34 ‘Human Bombs’

Mumbai: Security agencies in Mumbai have been placed on high alert after police received a chilling threat claiming that 34 “human bombs” strapped with nearly 400 kg of RDX have been deployed in vehicles across the city. The anonymous caller warned that the blasts would “shake the entire city,” officials confirmed on Friday.

The threat, made to the traffic police helpline, was purportedly issued by a group identifying itself as Lashkar-e-Jihadi. With the warning coming on the eve of Anant Chaturdashi, when thousands gather for Ganpati visarjan processions, authorities have tightened surveillance across Maharashtra.

According to police sources, the message suggested that one crore lives could be at risk if the explosives were detonated. Special teams, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), have been mobilized, while checkpoints and patrols have been intensified across sensitive zones.

This latest scare comes amid a series of recent hoax threats targeting public spaces in the state. Just earlier this week, a man was arrested in Thane for allegedly making a false claim about planting a bomb at Kalwa railway station. In August, the ISKCON temple in Girgaon was evacuated after a bomb threat email, which was later found to be baseless. A similar threat was reported at Mumbai airport in July but turned out to be a false alarm.

While police are verifying the authenticity of the latest call, officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately. “We are treating the threat with utmost seriousness,” a senior officer said, adding that security measures will remain heightened until further clarity is obtained.
