Chandigarh: Haryana Cooperation Minister, Dr. Arvind Sharma on Saturday directed district officers to give top priority to public welfare works and ensure that citizens are not made to run from pillar to post to avail themselves of government services and welfare schemes. He also directed officers to take prompt and effective action on public grievances.

Dr. Arvind Sharma gave these directions while chairing the meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievances Redressal Committee in Charkhi Dadri. Later while addressing the media person he shared that 11 complaints were taken up during the meeting, of which nine were resolved on the spot. He said that directions have been issued in the remaining two cases, which have been kept pending for further consideration. He said necessary directions had been issued to the district administration in all grievance-related matters.

Dr. Arvind Sharma directed the officers that complaints must be dealt with firmly and without delay. He directed the administration to maintain a special focus on public welfare works and grievance redressal, while asking every officer and employee to remain alert and responsive in the discharge of their duties.

The Minister said that over the past 12 years, unprecedented development had taken place under the leadership of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. He said farmers, soldiers, traders, shopkeepers, women, men, students and youth had all benefited from various government initiatives.

During the meeting, a complaint was raised alleging that surgical gauze had been left inside a woman’s body during a delivery at a hospital. Taking serious note of the matter, Dr. Arvind Sharma directed the Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation and initiate action against those found responsible.

The committee also discussed complaints regarding the delay in the construction of the new Mini Secretariat building and issues relating to the electricity line from the Ghasola Power House to the Chidiya Mor and adjoining areas.

Expressing displeasure, the Minister said officers would have to improve their functioning and that shifting responsibility from one department to another was unacceptable. He directed that the pending construction work of the Mini Secretariat be completed within one month and all necessary testing carried out thereafter.

Dr. Arvind Sharma further directed that, within the same period, both feeders supplying power from Ghasola Power House to Chirya Mor and nearby areas should have their cables replaced as demanded by the complainant. Both matters have been kept pending for review in the next meeting.

On a complaint filed by Kulwant Phogat Ajit Singh, the Minister directed officers to complete the demarcation process and ensure construction of the road at the earliest. In the complaint submitted by Yudhvir Singh of Imlota village, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate informed the meeting that samples of the construction material used had been collected and sent to a laboratory for testing, following which appropriate action would be taken.

Taking cognisance of a complaint by Pritam Kumari of Santokhpura, Dr. Arvind Sharma said further action would depend on the extent of work initiated by the contractor over the next month.

The Minister also directed officers of the Power, Public Health Engineering and Public Works Departments to work in close coordination so that residents of the district do not face any inconvenience.

MLA, Sunil Satpal Sangwan said the government was implementing several key schemes with the spirit of Antyodaya to ensure that benefits reached the last person in society. He urged all district officers to ensure that every eligible and needy beneficiary received the benefits of government schemes without facing any difficulty.

Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Mandeep Kaur informed the Minister that the district administration is working on a war footing to address drinking water issues. Keeping the upcoming monsoon in view, clear directions had been issued to the concerned departments, which were expediting the required works. She said every officer and employee of the district administration remained committed to resolving public grievances while ensuring the availability of basic civic amenities.
