Pathankot: Continuous heavy rainfall across Punjab has left a trail of destruction, damaging roads, bridges, and cutting off connectivity in several areas. The latest incident was reported on the Pathankot-Jalandhar National Highway near Nangalpur village, where a portion of the service road adjoining the flyover collapsed due to the downpour.

Officials confirmed that several houses in Nangalpur village are now at risk as the ground beneath them has weakened. As a precautionary measure, the administration has closed one side of the Pathankot-Jalandhar highway near the village. The Jalandhar-bound carriageway has been blocked to prevent accidents, while the opposite side remains open for restricted movement.

Local residents expressed frustration, claiming successive governments had ignored their village’s problems. “If rains continue like this, our homes will be destroyed within days, and the national highway could be washed away,” said a villager.

The situation remains tense as waterlogging and soil erosion continue to worsen, with locals urging authorities to take immediate steps to safeguard both lives and infrastructure.
