CHANDIGARH / MOGA: Coming down heavily on civic apathy, Punjab Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Tuesday ordered to issue a show-cause notice to Municipal Commissioner, Moga after early morning surprise inspection exposed the unacceptable cleanliness standards across the city.

During his on-ground inspection in Moga city today, the minister interacted with residents and spotted open garbage points festering across the city, flouting the cleanliness benchmarks set under the CM Bhagwant Singh Mann led government’s “Mission Clean Punjab”.

Local Government Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated, “There is zero tolerance for laxity on cleanliness. My inspection in Moga today made it clear, Punjab’s people deserve better and erring officials will be held accountable. We are monitoring work, plugging gaps and intensifying efforts. This is the core of Mission Clean Punjab.”

Harjot Singh Bains has been personally monitoring the “Mission Clean Punjab”, and the tech-driven sanitation drive launched this month. The initiative makes 7 AM to 8 AM daily field visits mandatory for all civic officials, from Municipal Commissioners to EOs, and splits every city into 10-km zones, each under a dedicated supervisory officer to ensure accountability.

Reaffirming the Bhagwant Mann government’s vision for civic sanitation, he emphasised that Mission Clean Punjab will not be driven solely through official files but through direct administrative intervention and on-ground action. “Surprise inspections will be continued across the cities and negligent officials will be held responsible,” he shared.

The Local Government Minister asserted, “The sanitation workers are key stakeholders in the state’s urban development. We’re setting a precedent in Moga. Cleanliness is non-negotiable. We will inspect, enforce and deliver- until every city in Punjab meets the highest sanitation standards.”
