Amritsar: Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Thursday briefed Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan about the devastation caused by recent floods in the state. The meeting took place at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, where the Governor submitted a comprehensive report covering five of the worst-hit districts: Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur.

Governor Kataria, who personally toured the affected areas between September 1 and 4, provided details of the losses to human lives, agriculture, property, and infrastructure. He also highlighted the ongoing relief measures being undertaken by the Punjab Government, district administrations, the Army, NDRF, and other agencies.

Chouhan, who is in Punjab to directly interact with flood-hit families and review the situation, assured the Governor that the Central Government will extend every possible form of support to accelerate rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts. He added that the Centre remains committed to working in coordination with the state to help restore normalcy at the earliest.

The visit marks the beginning of a series of on-ground assessments that the Union Minister will carry out in flood-affected villages to evaluate damages and plan assistance measures in consultation with both central and state authorities.
