New Delhi: Uncertainty continues to surround Telegram’s availability in India as thousands of users reported being unable to access the messaging platform on Monday, despite expectations that temporary restrictions linked to the NEET-UG re-examination would end a day earlier.
Since early morning, social media platforms have been flooded with posts from users claiming they were unable to send messages, access Telegram’s website or download the application through official app stores. The continued disruption has sparked speculation about whether the restrictions remain in force or whether technical restoration is still underway.
Many users expressed frustration online, saying they had anticipated normal services would resume after June 22. Instead, they encountered the same issues that had affected the platform during the restriction period.
Apart from messaging failures, several users reported that Telegram’s web version remained inaccessible. Others pointed out that the application was still unavailable on major app marketplaces, raising further questions about when services would fully return.
The restrictions were initially imposed following concerns that examination-related material connected to the NEET-UG re-test could be circulated through the platform. Authorities had described the move as a temporary measure, leading users to expect a swift restoration once the examination process concluded.
However, as of June 23, there has been no official announcement confirming either the complete restoration of services or an extension of the restrictions. The absence of a formal update has fueled confusion among Telegram’s large user base across the country.
Digital rights observers note that the restoration of services after a temporary block can sometimes take time due to technical coordination involving internet service providers, app stores and platform operators. Nevertheless, the continued inaccessibility has intensified calls for clarity from authorities.
Telegram remains one of the most widely used messaging applications for communication, educational groups, business channels and content-sharing communities. As a result, the prolonged disruption has affected users across multiple sectors.
