Amritsar– Former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has urged authorities to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor without delay. He argued that if pathways for trade and sports have already resumed, there is no valid reason to restrict pilgrimages to this sacred site.

In recent months, channels of engagement between India and Pakistan have cautiously reopened. Sports have emerged as a key bridge, with the Asia Cup cricket tournament allowing both teams to face each other under international banners, even though bilateral series remain suspended. Field hockey has seen a similar revival, as Pakistan re-entered global competition through the FIH Pro League, which includes two high-profile matches against India. Trade, though limited, has also found some space for cooperation.

Harpreet Singh emphasized the spiritual importance of Kartarpur Sahib, calling it “our sacred place,” and voiced support for pilgrims who wish to offer seva, especially during crises like floods. He urged that religious faith should not be held hostage to political constraints.
