Mohali: In a significant operation, Mohali Police have cracked a terror module connected to the banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and arrested three men from Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the abduction and killing of a cab driver. A weapon and the stolen vehicle used in the crime have also been seized.

The case began after Anil Kumar, a taxi driver from Nayagaon, Mohali, was reported missing when his cab was forcibly taken away by unidentified men. His mobile phones were later found switched off, intensifying suspicion and triggering swift police action.

According to investigators, the three accused had hired the cab from Kharar before the incident. Following an altercation, the driver was shot dead, and his body was disposed of in the Mohali area. The suspects admitted to the crime during interrogation. An extensive search is ongoing to recover the victim’s remains.

Police have identified the arrested men as:

  1. Sahil Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad

  2. Munish Singh alias Ansh, son of Shamsher Singh

  3. Aijaz Ahmad alias Wasim, son of Ghulam Mohammad

(All three are residents of Jammu and Kashmir.)

Investigations revealed that Sahil Bashir was already wanted in a UAPA and Arms Act case registered in Handwara, J&K. His brother, Aijaz Ahmad, had previously been held with a cache of weapons and materials linked to JeM. Both brothers are believed to be Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the militant group.

Police recovered the snatched cab and a .32 bore pistol used in the crime. Authorities say the probe is far from over, as efforts are underway to trace the wider network supporting the accused.

Reiterating its commitment to public safety, Punjab Police said that such anti-national activities will be dealt with firmly, ensuring no room for terror elements in the state.
