Patiala: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Sanour, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, has been taken into custody in connection with an old case.
Pathanmajra, who had recently voiced dissent against his party’s leadership, alleged earlier that a rape case had been filed against him, linked to past family disputes. Reports suggest the complaint involves his former wife.
The police are expected to give clear information later about the case and what charges have been imposed on him.
Soon after the news surfaced, the MLA urged his supporters to demonstrate outside the offices of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and the Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Patiala, calling the charges politically motivated.
The development comes at a time when Pathanmajra had been increasingly critical of his party’s functioning, adding a layer of political intrigue to the matter.
Authorities have not released further details, while protests by his supporters are expected in the coming days.
