Chandigarh: The Punjab government has rolled out Mission Clean Punjab, a comprehensive cleanliness initiative aimed at improving sanitation standards across urban areas through continuous monitoring and daily field operations rather than a one-time campaign.
Announcing the initiative, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the programme has been launched under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann with a focus on sustained implementation and accountability at every level.
According to the minister, the campaign will see ministers, senior officials, and local administration personnel actively participating in morning cleanliness drives across cities and towns. The objective is to ensure regular upkeep of roads, public spaces, and civic infrastructure through direct supervision.
To strengthen oversight, the government has established a central war room to monitor complaints and coordinate real-time responses across districts. Cities including Ludhiana, Amritsar, Kharar, Bathinda and Nangal will be among the key locations where the system will be closely monitored.
The initiative will also incorporate technology-driven surveillance and live tracking mechanisms to assess the progress of sanitation work. Weekly performance rankings of cities will be prepared based on cleanliness indicators and administrative efficiency, encouraging healthy competition among urban local bodies.
Officials believe the ranking system will promote greater accountability while motivating civic authorities to maintain higher standards of public hygiene throughout the year.
The state government has described Mission Clean Punjab as a long-term governance programme designed to improve urban living conditions through consistent action, quicker grievance redressal and stronger coordination between departments.
By combining field inspections, technology-based monitoring and public participation, the administration aims to build cleaner and more organised cities while reinforcing its commitment to better civic services across Punjab.
