Chandigarh: Senior politician and retired IAS officer Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju has announced his departure from active organisational roles within the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Currently serving as the state General Secretary, Dr. Raju has formally requested the party leadership to relieve him of his administrative duties, stating a preference to remain unassigned to organisational positions for the foreseeable future.

The prominent leader explained that his decision stems from a commitment to redirect his energy toward broader public issues affecting both Punjab and the country. He noted that these structural, long-term challenges require focused advocacy, grass-roots mobilisation, and sustained dedication, which would conflict with the day-to-day political responsibilities of his current party office.

Dr. Raju has highlighted several key socio-political matters that he intends to champion independently. His focused agenda includes securing educational opportunities for disadvantaged children, protecting the constitutional rights of Scheduled Castes and the Sikh community, addressing illegal religious conversions, combating the state’s persistent drug crisis, and preserving the Punjabi language. Additionally, he plans to focus on inter-state river water disputes, Chandigarh administration concerns, and historical heritage preservation projects, particularly around Amritsar.

Having previously held the position of State Vice President before becoming General Secretary, the bureaucrat-turned-politician has built a reputation for advocating social justice, governance reforms, and cultural preservation. This latest transition suggests a strategic shift from routine party politics to dedicated public policy advocacy and social work.

The announcement has sparked widespread speculation within regional political circles regarding his future trajectory and influence on Punjab’s socio-economic discourse. The central and state leadership of the BJP have not yet issued an official statement regarding his resignation request.
