Ahmedabad: India continued its impressive performance at the inaugural World Yogasana Championship 2026, maintaining a commanding lead in the medal standings at the end of the third day of competition.

The host nation has amassed 30 medals so far, including 24 gold, five silver and one bronze, underlining its dominance in the sport and reaffirming its position as the global powerhouse of Yogasana.

Indian participants delivered exceptional performances across multiple categories, displaying a blend of flexibility, strength, precision and artistic excellence that helped the country pull well ahead of the competition.

Singapore occupies second place in the medal tally with six medals, including two gold, two silver and two bronze. Argentina is third with four medals, comprising two gold and two silver. Nepal has also impressed with a total of 10 medals, including one gold, six silver and three bronze medals, while Japan rounds out the top five with seven medals — one gold, three silver and three bronze.

The championship, being held in Ahmedabad from June 4 to June 8, marks the first-ever edition of the World Yogasana Championship. More than 500 athletes from 75 countries are participating in the global event, competing across 12 categories.

Competitions are being conducted in several disciplines, including Traditional Yogasana, Artistic Yogasana, Rhythmic Pairs and Team Events. Athletes from junior, youth and elite divisions are competing under internationally standardised judging and competition formats.

The event is being organised with support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, the Sports Authority of India, the Sports Authority of Gujarat, Gujarat Tourism and the Gujarat Yogasana Sports Association.

Sports administrators and Yogasana officials view the championship as a major step toward gaining wider international recognition for the sport. The event is also considered an important milestone in efforts to secure Yogasana’s inclusion in future multi-sport competitions and, eventually, the Olympic Games.
