Punjab News: Punjab Government Assures Resolution of Employees’ Demands, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema Meets Six Major Unions

Chandigarh, June 4: In a significant move aimed at addressing the concerns of state government employees, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema held discussions with representatives of six major employee unions and assured them that the Punjab Government is actively working on resolving their pending demands.

During the meeting, the Finance Minister reiterated that the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government is committed to regularising contractual employees and converting outsourced workers into contractual staff. He said the implementation process for these decisions is already underway.

Government Working on Employee Welfare Measures

Addressing the representatives, Harpal Singh Cheema said the state government has already announced its decision regarding the regularisation of contractual employees and the conversion of outsourced workers into contractual positions.

He directed administrative officers of the concerned departments, along with officials from the Personnel and Finance Departments, to accelerate the process and ensure that all genuine employee demands are addressed as quickly as possible.

The Finance Minister emphasized that departments should complete the required procedures on a priority basis and work in a fast-track mode to provide relief to employees.

Representatives of Six Unions Present Their Demands

As Chairman of the Cabinet Sub-Committee constituted to address employee-related issues, Harpal Singh Cheema held detailed discussions with representatives from several employee organisations.

The unions that participated in the meeting included the All Punjab DST/CTS Contract Instructor Union, Punjab Raj Sarkari Sahayata Prapt School Adhyapak Ate Hor Karmchari Union, Adarsh School Teaching and Non-Teaching Malazam Union, Theka Mulazam Sangharsh Morcha, Punjab Roadways/PUNBUS PRTC Contract Workers Union, and Punjab Roadways (PUNBUS) State Transport Worker Union.

Representatives from these organisations presented their concerns and demands before the government. The Finance Minister listened to their issues and assured them that appropriate steps would be taken to address legitimate demands at the earliest.

The Punjab Government stated that it remains committed to maintaining regular dialogue with employee organisations and finding practical solutions to their concerns. Officials said such engagements are aimed at strengthening the administrative system while ensuring the welfare and interests of government employees across the state.
