Amritsar: In a significant operation against organised crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police have uncovered an alleged cross-border network involved in the trafficking of narcotics, illegal firearms and hawala transactions. The crackdown led to the arrest of four individuals, along with the detention of two juveniles, officials said on Friday.

During the operation, police recovered over one kilogram of heroin, five sophisticated pistols, two live cartridges and ₹5 lakh believed to be linked to drug trafficking activities.

According to preliminary findings, the accused were allegedly operating in coordination with handlers based abroad. Investigators suspect the network used social media platforms to facilitate communication and coordinate the delivery and distribution of arms and narcotics. Authorities revealed that one of the arrested suspects is an Afghan national.

Police sources indicated that the seized contraband was part of a larger network that may have been functioning across international borders with the support of foreign associates. The accused are believed to have acted on instructions received from overseas contacts while distributing illegal consignments within the region.

A case has been registered at Cantonment Police Station in Amritsar under relevant provisions of law. Officials said the investigation is still at an early stage and efforts are underway to trace both the supply chain and the local distribution network connected to the racket.

Investigators are also examining financial transactions linked to the operation and attempting to identify additional individuals who may have played a role in facilitating the movement of drugs, weapons and illicit funds.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying action against drug smuggling, illegal arms trafficking, hawala activities and other forms of organised crime. Senior officials stated that operations targeting such networks will continue as part of the state’s ongoing campaign against criminal syndicates.

Further arrests and recoveries are expected as the probe progresses.
