New Delhi: An Indian Army officer has brought international recognition to the country by winning two prestigious academic awards at a premier US Army leadership programme attended by nearly 1,000 military officers from the United States and partner nations.

Major Prabhat Mishra was honoured with the Birrer-Brookes Award for Outstanding Master of Military Arts and Science Thesis and the General Douglas MacArthur Military Leadership Writing Award during the graduation ceremony of the US Army Command and General Staff College’s Command and General Staff Officer Course (CGSOC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

The awards were presented as 951 officers graduated from the rigorous 10-month programme, which is designed to prepare mid-career military officers for higher leadership and staff responsibilities. The graduating class included 120 international military students representing 92 countries.

Major Mishra’s achievement stands out among a highly competitive global cohort and reflects the growing professional excellence of Indian military officers on international platforms.

According to a statement from the US Army, this year’s course featured a modernised curriculum tailored to address rapid technological advancements and evolving operational challenges in contemporary warfare and military leadership.

Among other international award recipients, Major Aleksander Granberg of Norway received the General Dwight D. Eisenhower Award and the Arter-Doniphan Award, while Lieutenant Colonel Taleh S.F.H.H. Alrashid of Kuwait was honoured with the Major General Hans Schlup Award.

Addressing the graduating officers, Lieutenant General Jim Isenhower, Commanding General of the US Army Combined Arms Command and Fort Leavenworth, highlighted the responsibility of graduates to apply the knowledge and leadership skills acquired during the programme in increasingly complex operational environments.

Fort Leavenworth has been a centre for international military education since 1894. Over the years, more than 8,700 international military students from nearly 170 countries have studied alongside their American counterparts.

The US Army Command and General Staff College aims to develop agile, innovative and adaptive military leaders capable of operating effectively in uncertain and rapidly changing global security environments.
