New Delhi: Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj for allegedly disclosing the identity of a three-year-old girl who was reportedly sexually assaulted at a private school in west Delhi.

According to police officials, the case has been registered at Janakpuri Police Station under Section 72 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which prohibit revealing the identity of minor victims.

The FIR pertains to Bharadwaj’s alleged disclosure of information that could identify the child involved in a sexual assault case that surfaced earlier this year.

The assault case came to light on May 1, when the victim’s mother approached police alleging that her three-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted by a 57-year-old staff member at a private school. The accused was subsequently arrested, while a female teacher was also taken into custody during the course of the investigation.

Police said the latest FIR against Bharadwaj is separate from the ongoing sexual assault investigation and relates solely to the alleged violation of laws protecting the identity of child victims.

Responding to the action, Bharadwaj claimed that the BJP-led Central Government had lodged another FIR against him for naming the school connected to the case.

The matter is currently under investigation.
