Chandigarh: Senior BJP leader Sunil Jakhar on Thursday expressed gratitude to the party’s top leadership and workers across Punjab as he formally stepped aside from the post of Punjab BJP president, calling his tenure both an honour and a deeply meaningful responsibility.
In a detailed message issued after the party announced Kewal Singh Dhillon as the new state chief, Jakhar thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the confidence they placed in him during his leadership stint.
He also acknowledged the organisational guidance and support he received from BJP national leaders, including B.L. Santhosh, Jagat Prakash Nadda and party president Nitin Nabin, stating that their mentorship would remain invaluable to him in public life.
Jakhar described BJP workers and supporters in Punjab as the true strength of the organisation, saying their dedication and commitment helped make his tenure memorable and impactful.
The former Punjab BJP chief extended his full support and best wishes to newly appointed state president Kewal Singh Dhillon, expressing confidence that the party would continue to expand under the latter’s leadership ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
He said the BJP would continue working with greater determination to strengthen its presence across Punjab and serve the people of the state more effectively in the coming years.
Jakhar further remarked that his relationship with Punjab and its people goes beyond any official designation, adding that he would remain connected with the organisation and continue contributing with the same commitment and dedication.
The leadership transition comes at a crucial political moment as the BJP intensifies preparations for the next Assembly elections and attempts to widen its organisational base in Punjab. Kewal Singh Dhillon, a former Congress MLA from Barnala who joined the BJP in 2022, has now taken charge of the party’s state unit.
