Chandigarh: A production designer linked to the upcoming film Dhurandhar is facing serious criminal charges after Chandigarh Police registered a case against him based on allegations made by a woman who accused him of sexual assault and physical abuse during a meeting at a luxury hotel in the city.
The accused, identified as Saini S. Johrey, has been booked following a complaint lodged by a Chandigarh resident, who alleged that she was invited to meet him at a five-star hotel on the pretext of a professional interaction. According to the complaint, the meeting later turned hostile when she was allegedly assaulted after resisting his advances.
The woman has further claimed that she was unknowingly given a drink laced with an intoxicating substance, after which her condition reportedly worsened. She alleged that she was then subjected to physical assault and was prevented from leaving the premises.
Police registered the FIR on April 21 after conducting an initial inquiry into the allegations. However, details surrounding the case surfaced publicly only recently.
Investigators confirmed that the accused was taken into custody after the case was filed but was later granted bail by a district court.
The complainant currently resides in Chandigarh, though her permanent address is listed in New Delhi. Police records identify the accused as a Mumbai resident living in the Andheri West area.
Johrey is known in film industry circles for his production design work, including large-scale set creations for Dhurandhar, where he reportedly recreated sections resembling Pakistan’s Lyari district for filming in Thailand.
The case has now been taken up for further investigation, with police expected to examine hotel records, digital communication, and forensic evidence as part of the probe. Authorities have not yet issued any further statement on whether additional legal action may follow.
