New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Friday that the Central Government will roll out an advanced smart border project within the next year. The initiative is designed to fortify India’s roughly 6,000-kilometre frontiers shared with Pakistan and Bangladesh, rendering them entirely impenetrable. Delivering the annual Rustamji Memorial Lecture hosted by the Border Security Force in New Delhi, Shah emphasized that the high-tech infrastructure upgrade aims to decisively neutralize external conspiracies intended to artificially alter the demographic balance of India’s sensitive border regions.

The ambitious security overhaul is strategically timed to coincide with the landmark 60th anniversary of the BSF’s raising, honoring the legacy of K. F. Rustamji, who served as the founding Director General of the force following its establishment in 1965. According to the Home Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs will establish a robust, comprehensive security grid over the next twelve months. This smart border framework will heavily integrate modern tactical technology, deploying an interconnected network of thermal imaging drones, low-altitude surveillance radars, and AI-driven smart cameras to replace traditional physical patrolling limitations and eliminate blind spots.

In addition to technological integration, the Home Minister reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to internal security and strict demographic monitoring, asserting that law enforcement agencies will locate and deport illegal infiltrators nationwide. Shah highlighted that the state governments of Assam, Tripura, and West Bengal maintain a unified zero-tolerance policy against cross-border infiltration. To streamline field coordination, the Home Ministry is scheduled to convene a high-level security meeting with the Chief Ministers of these critical border states shortly. Furthermore, Shah revealed that a specialized, high-powered national demography mission will be formally unveiled by the Union Government in the coming days to safeguard the geopolitical integrity of peripheral territories.
