Gurugram: An emotional scene unfolded inside a Gurugram court on Monday as Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora broke down while meeting his family members before being sent to judicial custody till June 1 in an alleged money laundering case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Arora was produced before a special court after completion of his ED remand. Following the hearing, the court ordered 14-day judicial custody for the Aam Aadmi Party leader. The matter will now be heard again on June 1.

According to witnesses present in the courtroom, the Punjab minister appeared visibly exhausted after several days in custody. He was seen with a grown beard and a pale face during the proceedings.

The courtroom turned emotional when Arora met his family members, especially his daughter. Witnesses said the minister hugged her tightly and became teary-eyed during the brief interaction. Family members were also seen struggling to hold back their emotions.

Arora was arrested by the ED on May 9 from his official residence in Chandigarh after prolonged questioning in connection with the case being probed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Following his arrest, he was initially remanded to seven days of ED custody, which was later extended by another two days for further interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Punjab minister has challenged his arrest and remand before the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The matter is currently under consideration, and the ED is expected to file its response during the upcoming proceedings.

The ED investigation into the alleged money laundering case is continuing.
