Shimla: Governor Kavinder Gupta said that effective leadership is not merely about holding a position but about carrying people along, understanding the needs of society and becoming an instrument of positive change.
He was addressing the Club Leadership Learning Seminar organised by Rotary District 3070 in Jammu on Sunday. He expressed satisfaction at the participation of representatives from Jammu, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi, observing that such turnout reflects a deep commitment to service, leadership and social dedication.
The Governor praised Rotary International and its guiding principle, ‘Service Above Self.’ He said Rotary is not just an organization, but a global movement working for humanity. He appreciated Rotary’s efforts in education, healthcare, environmental protection, water conservation, women empowerment, disaster relief and social welfare.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ the Governor said social organizations and volunteers have an important role in building a developed India. He said that real progress is possible only when society and government work together.
The Governor spoke about major social problems such as drug abuse, environmental issues, mental stress, lack of health awareness and increasing social disconnection among youth. He said the government alone cannot solve these problems and active public participation is necessary.
On the occasion while addressing the youth, he said leadership is not only about personal success but also about serving society. He encouraged young people to use their talent, energy and creativity for nation-building.
He praised Rotary Clubs for organizing blood donation camps, health check-up drives, cleanliness campaigns, educational support, plantation drives and disaster relief activities. He said true leadership means helping the people who need support the most.
The Governor also appealed to citizens to save fuel in daily life by using public transport, avoiding unnecessary use of private vehicles, switching off engines at traffic signals and adopting carpooling. He said fuel saving is both a national duty and an important step towards reducing pollution and lowering the country’s fuel import burden.
He urged Rotary Clubs to spread awareness about fuel conservation and said small efforts by millions of people can create a big positive impact on the country.
The Governor congratulated Rotary Club Jammu Tawi and Rotary District 3070 for organising the seminar and wished all participants success in their future social service activities.
