Chandigarh: In a significant political development in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) and Akali Dal Punar Surjeet have officially ended their recently formed alliance.

The decision was announced on Saturday after a key meeting of leaders of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De. The party stated that the alliance was dissolved due to “irresponsible statements” allegedly made within the partnership.

The two Akali factions had joined hands only recently in an effort to strengthen their political position in Punjab and consolidate support among panthic voters. However, political differences appear to have surfaced soon after the alliance was formed.

Leaders of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De confirmed that the alliance now stands terminated. While the party cited differences over public statements, detailed reasons behind the split have not been officially disclosed so far.

The breakup of the alliance is being viewed as another setback to attempts at opposition unity among smaller Akali factions in Punjab ahead of future political battles in the state.

Political observers believe the split could impact efforts to create a united panthic front, especially at a time when multiple regional groups are trying to expand their influence amid changing political dynamics in Punjab.

Neither side has yet announced its future political strategy following the collapse of the alliance.
