CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday flagged off the largest-ever batch of 72 government school teachers to Finland for advanced training, further strengthening the Punjab Government’s ongoing “Sikhya Kranti” education reform programme. The teachers will undergo specialised training at the globally renowned University of Turku till May 29, focusing on modern teaching methods, student-centric learning and globally benchmarked education systems.

Addressing the teachers before their departure, Bhagwant Singh Mann said Punjab’s government schools are now competing with and even outperforming private schools in several academic indicators. He highlighted that Punjab has made major progress in school infrastructure, with computers available in nearly 99 percent of government schools and electricity connectivity reaching almost every institution across the state. He also noted that Punjab has performed strongly in key education parameters compared to several leading states.

The Chief Minister said the Finland training programme is aimed at bringing practical innovation directly into Punjab’s classrooms and equipping teachers with future-ready educational practices. Praising Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains for spearheading reforms at the grassroots level, he said the government remains committed to transforming public education and making government schools the first choice for parents and students across Punjab.
