ARRESTED ACCUSED PERSONS EXECUTED PLANNED KILLINGS ON FUGITIVE HANDLER HAPPY JATT’S DIRECTIONS: DGP GAURAV YADAV
CHANDIGARH: In a major breakthrough in the sensational Batala double murder case, Punjab Police, in a well-coordinated operation with Central Agencies, has arrested three key operatives linked to foreign-based fugitive gangster Happy Jatt from the Indo-Bhutan border in West Bengal while they were attempting to flee to Bhutan, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.
T he operation under the name “Operation Nest Wrecker” was jointly carried out by Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) Punjab headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ashish Choudhary and Batala Police.
Those arrested have been identified as Jatin Singh, a resident of Kathunangal in Amritsar, Sajandeep Singh, a resident of village Sangar Kot in TarnTaran and Mehakdeep Singh, a resident of Balia Manjpur in Amritsar. Accused Jatin Singh has a criminal background with multiple criminal cases under Arms Act, NDPS Act, etc. registered against him.
As per the information, four unidentified assailants on two motorcycles opened fire on three individuals in village Bhoma in Batala on April 27, 2026 at around 9PM. In this incident, two of the individuals succumbed to the bullet injuries, while, one was injured.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused were acting on the directions of their foreign-based fugitive handler Happy Jatt and had executed planned killings on his directions.
The DGP said that investigation has also revealed that accused persons were constantly changing locations to evade arrest. Further investigation is underway to establish the complete conspiracy including financial links, logistical support, weapon procurement, and role of other associates involved in the case, he added.
Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that following the incident, police teams from AGTF, Batala Police, Intelligence and Technical units jointly carried out investigation and analysed extensive CCTV footage from multiple locations.
Technical footprints and intelligence inputs confirmed the movement of accused persons towards international border region, said the ADGP, while adding that acting swiftly, a team comprising officers/officials of AGTF and Batala Police dispatched to arrest and bring back the accused persons to Punjab.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 70 dated 28.04.2026 has already been registered under sections 103 and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms Act at Police Station Ghuman in Batala.
